Tyler’s POV-

After I got back from my mom’s house, Troye was acting really weird, and distant. When we were training for the transfer, he had no emotion and never stayed with me long. I’m worried I did something. He won’t say more than a few words a day.  He looks constantly worried and paranoid. I don’t know what got into him. He will disappear for days at a time sometimes. It’s been almost two weeks of this and I am so done. We’re supposed to be going up to earth tomorrow but Troye is gone...again. I mean he never tried to call it off or anything. I guess I’ll wait and see. I am about to send Troye one last, desperate text message before he barges in through the door, soaked from the heavy downpour outside.

“Where did you go for 13 hours this time,” I say coldly and Troye looks at me, defeated. His hair laying wet and flat on his head and his bloodshot eyes makes him look so much weaker than he is. I almost pity him but it’s not my fault he left, right? He is trembling and his breaths are shaky. I can’t stay mad, not like this. I open my arms to him, smiling as warmly as I can in my bad mood. Then he walks over and falls into my arms, hugging me tightly. It takes me a moment to process this before I wrap my own arms around him and hug back even tighter. His touch seems foreign after he practically ignored me for 2 weeks.

“I’m so sorry, I was so stupid, I thought, maybe, maybe if I distanced myself you wouldn’t be hurt, I’m so sorry,” Troye explains in a mumble.

“You wouldn’t hurt me on purpose, I know that. If anything, I would hurt you,” I joke and Troye smiles, with his teeth.

“Can we go up now?” Troye asks after a moment of silence.

“I mean, if it’s safe,” I answer, not really thinking, relief clouding my judgement.

“It is, trust me, we can go out during the day on Halloween and people will just think we’re heading to some amazing costume contest,” Troye answers gleefully. I nod and think for a moment.

“But Halloween is still 2 days away,” I question.

“Time zones are weird, so if we leave tonight we’ll be there the 30th and it will be night and we’ll blend in okayish enough to just find somewhere to stay,” Troye explains.

“We don’t have anything to use to get somewhere to stay,” I point out.

“Really?” Troye says with a sly smirk and grabs a bag under his bed. He unzips it and pours out tons of green pieces of paper. I pick one up and examine it. It’s what the mortals use….bills! I learned about these, it’s what the Americans use as mone! We have something incredibly similar here, as we tend to adopt mortal ways in some shape or form.

“I guess we’ll be going to America?” I ask and Troye smiles.

“I think we’ll blend in best there, they go all out for this Holiday I heard, costumes and stuff wise,” Troye explains and loads the money back into the bag.
